Job Description:

The Principal provides leadership for the academic and extra-curricular operations of the Academy.  Areas of responsibility, elaborated below, include Faith Community Affairs, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Athletics.  The Principal serves as a community leader, fostering a climate of well-being and engagement of students, faculty and staff within the Academy.  The Principal serves as an instructional leader, enhancing curriculum and teaching to foster strong student achievement.  The Principal serves as a role model, reflecting the Catholic and Sacred Hearts identity of the Academy and embodying the creative and forward-thinking direction of the school. 

Faith Community Affairs
1. With the Head of School, maintains the Catholic identity of Sacred Hearts Academy.
2. Employs and supervises the Campus Minster
3. Directly insures the development of the faith 
community through faculty/staff retreats, student retreats, service and service learning programs, the integration of faith with the learning process, the religion program and liturgies and para-liturgical services.

 4. Coordinates students’ service programs

Academic Affairs

  1. Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of Vice Principals, Deans of Faculty and the Registrar
  2. Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of faculty and academic staff
  3. Professional development programs for faculty and academic staff
  4. Preschool through 12th grade instructional programs
  5. Summer school and auxiliary programs
  6.  Master schedule (matrix) and day to day school schedules
  7. Student records and transcripts

Student Affairs

  1. Hiring, supervision, evaluation, and dismissal of the Director of Student Activities
  2. Plans and coordinates co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
  3. Coordinates student support and discipline

Athletic Affairs

  1. Hiring, supervision, evaluation and dismissal of the Athletic Director
  2. Planning and coordination of all intramural and interscholastic sports
  3. Development and implementation of policy regarding player eligibility and expectations of coaches and staff.
  4. Involvement in hiring and dismissal of coaches and assistants.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience

Minimum of 3 years of teacher leadership or academic management experience

Experience managing/coordinating accreditation processes and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a principal in a K – 12 school

Experience in a Catholic school environment

Educational or professional focus on learning differences or special education

Experience managing/coordinating accreditation processes and procedures

Knowledge of best practices in girl-focused education

Knowledge of current trends in curriculum and assessment, learning theories, and other issues at the forefront of education.

Essential Characteristics

Leadership skills and experience in education working with teachers and administrators; knowledge of current best practices in education and learning, supervision, team development

Ability to work with, and encourage others to excel in their work

Ability to maintain composure, tact, sensitivity and flexibility during peak periods and crisis intervention situations

Ability to handle the highly confidential information regularly seen and discussed

Strong management and organizational skills – ability to manage multiple functions and priorities in an efficient manner; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and focus to complete projects

Effective interpersonal skills to establish successful relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff, and community resources and partners

Effective oral and written communications skills to include conflict resolution skills; ability to communicate clearly with a wide audience within the student, parent, community and campus populations

Attentive to fiscal responsibility in the administration of academic budgets

Analytical skills to review and analyze activities and initiatives such as: cost-benefit analysis, budget projections, academic achievement, etc.

Familiarity with basic statistical analysis

Team player – works well with others to achieve results; demonstrates respect and hospitality for the ideas of others; able to incorporate the thinking of individuals in a group to reach group consensus

Willing and available to work varied hours, including evening events and occasional travel state-wide and to the continental U.S. as required

Physical Requirements

Frequently sits, performs desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds

Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully

Working Conditions

Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces

Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives

As needed, on-call status, 24/7
