The position will have two primary roles:
- Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to support student learning both inside and outside of the classroom. The Assistant Teacher’s primary role will be to support experiences on the playground. On the playground, the Assistant Teacher actively ensures the safety and well-being of students, play areas and grounds for safety. Inside the classroom, the Assistant Teacher will collaborate with teachers to create a teaching team environment that allows for more flexibility and increased opportunities for student-teacher interaction and high quality program of instruction and student support. The Assistant Teacher’s role may also involve designing learning experiences for individual and small group instruction to help personalize the learning experience.
- After School Care (ASC) Lead Teacher is responsible for the supervision of students in their designated grade level. Provides a safe, nurturing and enriching environment for children in grades K-5. In collaboration with the ASC team, implements activities that reflect the vision and mission of the ASC program and grade level themes. The Lead Teacher works well with the ASC Coordinator, Student Workers, Punahou Faculty, Staff, and Parents. Evaluates the effectiveness of the program and activities, ensures the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintains regular communication with parents via newsletter, phone calls, email, etc. and contributes to the effective operation of the overall ASC program.
The ideal candidate will understand the developmental stages of children, ability to use multiple teaching strategies to provide for a range of student needs, the ability to develop and support a positive learning environment, and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students to support their learning.
