Candidates with a background or experience in debate / coaching debate teams are preferred. PBA has a diverse community of learners, and so the ability to differentiate instruction and to design lessons appealing to a wide variety of learners is also important. Candidates should be comfortable designing and executing interdisciplinary learning that applies humanities-based learning across disciplines and in real-world settings.
In addition to teaching, we are looking for educators comfortable assuming an advisory role in our small school setting. The ideal candidate will support the school mission of partnering with students in an intentional community that conveys the importance of interdependence, empowers learners to make individual contributions to the school and broader community, and guides young people to challenge themselves and practice gratitude in their communities. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree or higher in English, History or a Humanities-related field, as well as at least 3-5 years of teaching experience in grades 7-12 at an independent school, and be comfortable teaching both Language Arts and Social Studies / History courses.
