Job Title:
Assistant Costume Designer Faculty - Theatre
Job Type:
Full Time
Position Level:
Job Description:

The arts are the vessels of our culture. Theatre, which can encompass them all, is the richest and most distinguished. Since ancient times, we have gathered around the stage for communal storytelling, to examine important ideas, to celebrate and mourn, to seek truth and to bring history and literature to life. Theatre is a mirror of society and a path to deep understanding of the human condition. In arts education, theatre develops the student connection to social, emotional and ethical learning, building trust, confidence, empathy and resilience through the height of artistic expression.

Punahou is actively recruiting an Assistant Costume Designer & Co-Curricular Faculty who will support the show director’s artistic vision, in support of the Aims of a Punahou Education, providing visual support of the story, concept, and context of productions and helps actors and dancers to portray their characters, meet the needs of the performers, and tell the story. Designs, plans, constructs, acquires, drafts patterns, alters, maintains, and coordinates wardrobe needs for theatrical productions and dramatic arts instruction at the School. Serves in a lead capacity for assigned productions as determined by Costume Shop Supervisor / Lead Costumer. As a Co-Curricular Faculty member, the Assistant Costume Designer will collaborate with others to develop, implement, and teach best-practice curriculum based on the duel-environment of design and construction from conceptualization to production.
