More Information:

What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is human-centered innovation.” Design thinking focuses on discovering the problems, asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, generating a range of possibilities, and learning through targeted stages of iterative prototyping. Using ethnographic tools and contextual inquiry, design thinkers learn how to observe, interview, and develop empathetic insights that lead to transformative, rather than incremental innovation

Design Thinking For The Classroom:

The HAIS-Design Thinking Hawaii Intensive Design Thinking for the Clarssroom will be a high-energy, experiential earning experience. Participants in the will collaborate in teams by subject areas and grade levels. The workshop is built upon learning by doing and reflection, and participants learn the phases of the design thinking process as they tackle the challenge. The Hasso Plattner Institute of Design’s five-step process (empathy, define, ideate, prototype, feedback) will be used in the workshop.  Teachers will leave with an understanding of how they may apply design thinking into classroom work for students.

Tentative Agenda:

  • Welcome and Introductory Challenge Design Thinking
  • Classroom Examples of Design Thinking Process and Mindsets
  • Applied Brainstorming
  • Crafting Design Challenges and Developing a Problem Canvas
  • Developing Design Thinking Integrated Standards-Based Activity Creation
  • Share Outs
  • Final Debrief and Closing

Please Note: Attendance at a Design Thinking Hawaii or Oceanit Introductory session is highly recommended, but not required.  Working knowledge of design thinking will enhance the experience.
