Oahu: January 30, 2017 & Maui: January 31, 2017

NEW!! Registration has been EXTENDED to January 6, 2017

The Hawai‘i Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) is pleased to announce a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Workshop, which will take place on January 30 (Oahu) and January 31 (Maui) . Professional Learning Communities represent the best organizing process for the 21st Century learner and it is through the PLC framework that, when successfully accomplished, students will reach the highest levels of learning.

The Hawai’i PLC will be run by Dr. Tim Stuart, Executive Director of Strategic Programs at Singapore American School. In this role, Dr. Stuart serves as the chief architect for research and development and supports strategic school reform. He is the former High School Principal of Singapore American School and High School Principal of Jakarta International School. Tim has traveled the world visiting schools that are actively attempting to create optimal learning environments for their students. Through his travels and research, it has become abundantly clear that teacher collaboration, clear learning targets, timely feedback, positive relationships, personalized learning structures, intervention and acceleration strategies are at the heart of successful school of the future.

Institute and Registration Information
During the PLC Workshop, participants will learn how to engage students in taking collective responsibility for their own learning by framing the 4 PLC questions around their own experiences:

1. What do I need to know and be able to do?
2. How will I know that I have learned it?
3. What will I do if I am not learning?
4. What will I do if I already know it?

By bringing students into the PLC conversations, schools can increase student agency, create relevant learning experiences, and offer authentic assessment opportunities for students to accelerate their own learning.
