Back by popular demand! The Hawaii Association of Independent Schools is pleased to announce that we are once again collaborating with the Principals’ Training Center (PTC). PTC was founded in 1989 to meet the professional development needs of leaders in schools around the world. Over 2500 educators have participated in PTC training programs.

The Hawaii Teacher Leader Institute (TLI) will be run by Sue Easton, Director of the Teacher Training Center (TTC). Previously, Sue was the Deputy Head of School for Learning at the American School of Brasilia. Sue has had similar transformative roles in Kuala Lumpur as Director of Curriculum and Professional Development at ISKL, and Barcelona as the Assistant Director for Learning at ASB and previously worked in Canada as a teacher, assistant Principal, Principal, and system-wide Learning Coordinator focusing on Literacy and Numeracy for struggling learners. She has a Masters in International Education Administration and Principals’ Qualifications through the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE). Sue has taken an active role in the Accreditation process, and has experience with MSA, CIS, WASC, and AdvancEd. She has a passion for learning and a belief that systematized school structures lead to school and student success.

Institute and Registration Information

This is a 2-day institute designed for teachers, and practicing or aspiring grade level leaders and/or department heads, who want to enhance both their leadership skills and their understanding of quality curriculum as the basis of effective learning.

Course Description:

Facilitating curriculum committees, or developing curriculum, is often part of the role of the teacher leader. Working with teams to make curricular change in a school setting, demands both skills and knowledge. This one-of-a-kind course will help teachers and team leaders hone skills in this vital area.  Using actual units of study, case studies, and other practical curriculum tools, participants will develop skills in:

Day 1: April 21

 8:00 am – 5:30 pm – Punahou School, Kuaiheilani Learning Center (at Case Middle School)

  • 7:30 – 8:00: Registration & Continental Breakfast
  • 8:00 – 8:15: Orientation
  • 8:15: Institute Begins
  • 10:15: Break
  • 12:30-1:30 Lunch Provided 
  • 3:15: Break
  • 5:00: Farewell

Day 2: April 22

8:00 am – 4:00 pm - Punahou School, Kuaiheilani Learning Center (at Case Middle School)

  • 7:30-8:00: Continental Breakfast
  • 8:00: Institute begins
  • 10:15: Break
  • 12:30-1:30 Lunch Provided
  • 2:45: Break
  • 4:00: Farewell

Please see the Punahou Campus Map for parking and workshop location.  Enter through the Main Gate or the entrance on Wilder Avenue and proceed along Chamberlain Drive or Palm Drive to the parking area at the end of Chamberlain Field. Traffic may be a bit heavy between 7:30 - 8:00am, due to drop-off.

Cancellation & Refund Policy :

Spaces are limited and reservations are non-refundable. By submitting the online registration form, you agree to pay the registration fee, regardless of attendance. If you are unable to attend the event for any reason, registrants may transfer their registration to a colleague from the same organization. Payment must be received within three weeks of the registration date.
